What is 30x WGS?
WGS provides the most comprehensive view of your genome, enabling detection of a wide range of genetic variants including single nucleotide variants (SNVs), insertions, deletions, and structural variants that array-based methods may miss entirely.
Clinical Cancer Reporting
Analysis covers established hereditary cancer panels:
BRCA1 & BRCA2
Breast and ovarian cancer
MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2
Lynch syndrome
TP53
Li-Fraumeni syndrome
APC
Familial adenomatous polyposis
CHEK2, PALB2, ATM
Cancer susceptibility
RB1, VHL, RET
Additional cancer panels
Variants classified per ACMG guidelines and cross-referenced with ClinVar for clinical significance.
ClinVar Validated Medical Reporting
Cardiovascular
Familial hypercholesterolaemia, cardiomyopathies, arrhythmia syndromes
Pharmacogenomics
Drug response, metabolism, and adverse reaction risk
Carrier Status
Recessive condition carrier screening for family planning
ACMG Secondary Findings
Medically actionable findings per ACMG SF list
Limitations of Interpretation
Results should not be used in isolation for clinical decision-making without appropriate professional guidance.
- • WGS does not detect all types of genetic variation equally (e.g. large structural rearrangements, repeat expansions)
- • Not all genomic regions are equally well-characterised in current databases
- • Genetic findings represent risk or predisposition and must be considered alongside clinical context
- • Variants of uncertain significance may be reclassified over time
- • Some regions remain difficult to sequence accurately even at 30x coverage
Genetic Counselling
Clinical interpretation and genetic counselling are strongly advisable for WGS results.
- Explain results in the context of your personal and family medical history
- Discuss implications of pathogenic or likely pathogenic findings
- Guide decisions about further clinical investigation or screening
- Provide emotional support and address concerns
- Discuss implications for family members where relevant
Optional genetic counselling is available for £150.
